Boys Suits
A guide for learning about how to find a great 3 piece suit and other types of suits
Unless your son attends the famous British public school, Eton College, boys suits are not an item of clothing that is worn on a day-to-day basis. At Eton, the boys are seen wearing suits with the traditional frock coat seen in the days of Charles Dickens. But if boys wear suits today at all, they are in a more modern style that mimics the suits that their fathers would wear.
Boys suits come in a variety of colors – black, grey, brown, or navy blue. Some boys suits also exist in pinstripe, making their wearers look like little men. Depending on the age of the boy, it is important to take his growth rate into account when buying him a suit. When a man buys a suit, he may well expect it to last for the next ten years. For a young boy, this is impractical, especially when he starts to become a teenager. At this point, do not be surprised if he has a sudden growth spurt and it will no longer fit him even a few months later.
At the same time, it is not a good idea to buy boys suits that are way too big so that the child should grow into them but then expect him to wear them beforehand. Your son deserves better than that, especially if he is a teen or preteen and more concerned about his appearance than his younger brother. Therefore, the trick is to find boys suits that will last longer than a few weeks, but will fit your son and not make him look or feel ridiculous.
So when do boys wear boys suits? There are certain classic occasions, such as at a wedding, when any little boy of any age will look very cute in a mini tuxedo or black suit, especially if he has been chosen to be a page boy. For such occasions, there are even “baby tuxedos” on the market. Then, there are certain religious occasions, such as for Communion if you are Christian or a bar mitzvah if you are Jewish, which require formal dress. In fact, in the orthodox Jewish world, boys aged 13 and over traditionally wear black suits, white shirts, and hats, especially at prayer or when studying Torah.
Boys suits certainly give their wearers a certain touch of class. It is not only the fact that they look like little men, but they look tidy and clean. Like men, boys wear a tie with their suits, and with the right white shirt they can look very neat.
Good quality fabric is another important part of buying boys suits. While we would not encourage our sons to roll around in the mud while wearing their suits, the suits need to be made from fabric that is suitable for young lads and will not tear as soon as the boy bends down for a moment.
Buying the right boys suits for your son is very important. If he looks and feels good in it, he will always remember this special occasion in his life and it will be a source of great happiness for him.
